Leadership
I lead leaders. I have a variety of clients where I coach and train community leaders. I am able to see the big picture and work with a team to carry out individual tasks. I have recruited, trained and managed staff and volunteers and am comfortable delegating tasks, working with diverse personalities and conflict resolution. I train leaders through the NM MainStreet Professional Development Certification Program and present at state and national leadership conferences.
Tourism
I work with state and regional organizations in asset development and target market identification for comprehensive marketing campaigns. I partner with the NM Tourism Department in educating MainStreet communities on the NM True brand and integrating it into their marketing strategies. I work with individual communities and organizations in developing unique brands and collateral materials as well as identifying target markets and creating marketing plans. I helped to develop OfftheRoadinNM.com, a website dedicated to historic, architectural and cultural assets in MainStreet and Arts & Cultural Districts in NewMexico. NM Tourism is now using “Off the Road” in a new “Visit our Trails” campaign.
Budget Development-Control/Financial/Audit Reporting
I have experience in budget development, oversight, reporting, and auditing processes. I work with business plans, proformas, and budget proposals for businesses, events, activities, and projects. I am familiar with reporting requirements for grants, capital outlay and assembling information foraudits. I am proficient with QuickBooks.
Public-Private Partnerships
My roles with clients require an intimate working knowledge of municipal processes. I work closely with city managers, finance directors, clerks, community relations directors, grant writers, public works, city engineers, police departments, fire departments, and purchasing agents to create and execute contracts, RFPs, state reports, budgets, events and projects.
Economic Development
My work in ED began with the Clovis/Curry County Chamber and CIDC where I compiled data and information for business recruitment and organized site visits for potential clients. I understand retail and industrial recruitment processes and participated in the successful recruitment of industrial businesses and call centers to the Clovis area (including SEI Call Centers and Southwest Cheese, the largest cheddar cheese plant in North America). In MainStreet I work with single business owners and groups of businesses to identify niche business clusters, leakage and create plans and tools for niche marketing, retail events, business recruitment, andretention.
Nonprofit Organization/Development/Management
I have assisted organizations in 501(c) 3 and (c) 6 applications at the state and federal level and helped to recruit and train their boards of directors. I understand, and can manage, the details involved in nonprofit development, management, reporting, and all aspects offinances.
Fundraising
Fundraising is a key element for all nonprofit organizations. I have organized and executed Corporate Cornerstone Campaigns, Phone Tree Fundraising, Operational Funding Campaigns, Membership Drives and Campaigns and events to raise organizational funds. I have also worked with project and activity fundraising and am comfortable with the implementation and marketing of fundraising campaigns. I have also provided training in fundraising and event sponsorships to non-profit leaders.
Public Relations/Marketing
Communication and perception are key elements for any entity or community. I work with organizations and communities in establishing an Image Development Plan and/or a Branding Strategy. I can create, implement and oversee a public relations plan that includes public service announcements, press releases, newsletters, eblasts, social media interaction, and press conferences. I am familiar with researching and identifying target markets and creating marketing plans for that audience. I have worked with events across NM and for the NM MainStreet program in advertising regionally through social media, radio, newspaper and magazines. I have worked closely with staff at the NM Tourism office to implement their NM True campaign in many of the 30+ NMMS communties.
Event Planning/Implementation/Evaluation
I have extensive experience in all aspects of events with budgets ranging from $500 to $200,000. I have personally created and implemented events as well as coached organizations and communities with their events. I personally organize an annual Home Show, a quarterly State MainStreet Conference and have been part of a team to create statewide conferences in New Mexico and Alaska. I believe that events should be self-supporting and even generate income for the community or organization that holds the event.
Grant Writing
I am a successful grant writer with over $2,600,000 in awards during my tenure with Clovis MainStreet including NM Department of Transportation Assistance Program Grant, NM MainStreet Capital Outlay Competitive Grants, NM Legislative Requests, NM Tourism Co-op Grants, and Private Foundations. I currently serve on various state grant review boards for rural development and arts and cultural granting agencies and teach workshops on grantwriting.
Small Business Development/Enrichment
I have experience in business recruitment, enrichment, and retention. I have worked with teams to answer Potential Recruitment Opportunity (PRO) requests from the NM Partnership and NM Economic Development Department for industrial businesses. I have organized host site visits and events to welcome new businesses. I present workshops in communities to educate small business owners on branding, marketing, and advertising their businesses.
Arts & Culture
I work with designated Arts and Cultural Districts and their arts councils to identify their unique position in a community. I serve on the NM Arts and Culture Resource Team to evaluate applicants for the state program and have partnered with NM Arts in the identification of asset identification and marketing for arts communities.
Public Speaking/Training/Education
I develop curriculum and lead workshops for state and national platforms as well as certification training. I present regularly at local conferences and training seminars. Events I have spoken at include the NM Municipal League Clerks Conference, the Building Creative Communities Conference (partnership with NM Economic Development, NM Arts and NM Historic Preservation), Oregon MainStreet Quarterly Training, NMMS Executive Director Certification Training, NM Industrial Developers Association and the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street Conference.
